Linda Susette Gertsch

Statement

Linda Susette Billedeaux Gertsch comes from Montana. Early on she discovered that creating art was an immensely satisfying activity.

Natural art interests in childhood and high school expanded into College and University work of a serious tone. This took her to Diablo Valley Jr. College (A.A.), Humboldt State University (B.S. and life teaching credential in California) and Brigham Young University (M.F.A). Adult rips to Europe and Russia to paint and study, added to her training.  Impressionist and post-impressionist masters of western Europe and Russia significantly influenced her technical and thematic direction.

As a professional high school art teacher, Susette traveled to Australia for two years and then returned to Salt Lake City where she taught for 19 more years.  After retiring in 2005, she focused on her own studio work that included many years with art festivals and museum competitions.  Her support of the arts led to founding and serving as president of the Midway Art Association where she innovated and chaired the annual Wasatch Plein Air Paradise painting competitions and a variety of art exhibits in Midway, Utah.

She has since, pursued the creation establishment of Art Around the Square, a local annual outdoor art festival in Midway as well as a community holiday dance.

Currently Susette continues to seek and create paintings that reflect her love of the landscape, as well as still life subjects and common scenes of everyday people in their homes, working in nature, and especially working in their gardens.

I am grateful for the opportunity to interpret the world in paint for as long as I am able.   It is a pure pleasure to contemplate this everything with a sense of wonder and appreciation, and share it through the fine visual arts”.
